Letter: Replacement levies vital for Coupeville schools

Editor,

The Coupeville School District is placing two important levies before the district voters on Feb. 10, with ballots likely to arrive in voter mailboxes by Jan. 23. Both are critical to maintaining quality existing services to students and to the district’s continuous efforts toward even higher quality education and services for Central Whidbey students.

Proposition 1, renewing the Educational Programs and Operations levy, is directed toward additional classroom space to keep class sizes low, support programs such as Highly Capable and social emotional supports, athletics and other extracurricular activities, vocational career and technical and other hands-on learning, and music and performing arts education, as well as supporting day-to-day operations and programs. Proposition 2, renewing the Capital Technology Levy, will be used toward ensuring ongoing access to technology for all students, repairs and maintenance of technology in the schools, renewing and purchasing new technology to improve student learning, and security updates such as cameras and entry access systems.

Both levies are replacement levies, meaning that they will replace and continue funding expiring levies that were approved by voters in 2022. The funds raised in these two four-year levies will stay in the community to support Coupeville students. Quality schools such as Coupeville Schools help build quality communities like our beloved Central Whidbey communities.

Your support and your positive vote is needed to help our Coupeville schools to provide the quality education for which we are so well known. Please vote yes as soon as you get your ballot. For more information about the levies, go to www.coupeville.k12.wa.us/levy.
