Letter: Trump injected politics into disaster relief

Editor,

Never before have we had a “president” who thinks with holding disaster relief should be connected to how the people of a state voted. If you did not vote for Trump (in his mind) no disaster relief. This is not how presidents should ever act.

Trump still does not understand what it means to be president. When will he get it? Does he really think he is only president for a certain type of Republican? What kind of country does he think this is? It’s disgusting! We feared he would not change; many of us knew he could not change.

Disaster relief is not and should not be connected to how people vote. Disaster relief is there for people who need it, have suffered loss. We have little control over Mother Nature or climate change and should never have strings tied to it. Disasters are not political. But Trump thinks the states should be able to handle disasters. They never have been able to probably what the federal government is for, the big stuff.

He had the Sharpie in his hand when he rescinded the 1960s-era civil rights (LBJ) non-discrimination order, which banned discrimination and required affirmative action by federal contractors.

Trump also canceled Biden’s ban on ICE arrests at schools, churches and hospitals. He abolished decades of government standards on diversity and equal opportunity and is seeking to do the same in the private sector. Trump signed an executive order ending “radical” and “wasteful” (his words) diversity, equality and inclusive programs in federal agencies. He calls it “woke,” but really it’s what most people expect of their government. Affirmative action was first used by JFK in an 1961 order on equal employment. Johnson followed with executive order 11246 that was survived by six Republican presidents, including Trump’s first term, by revoking it wiped out six decades of progress toward justice, with the stroke of a pen. This was on his first day!

What can we expect next, what horrors does he and his minions have planned next for us? More white washing of history (January 6th) ? What happened to helping the American people with the price gouging, housing and the price of eggs? Out the window or just another lie?
