Speaker urges action against billboards

“A speaker at last Tuesday’s SW Chamber of Commerce meeting urged the members to take action against what he called “immoral cluttering” along public supported roads and highways.

“The use of area next to our roads to promote private gain, in my view, is immoral,” said U of W Professor John A. Conway.”

Anonymous man donates artifacts collected over lifetime to schools

 

“Budding South Whidbey archaeologists will have a chance to delve into the mysteries of life due to the kindness of an anonymous South Whidbey resident.

“South Whidbey School Board members, teachers and others combed through a sample of Native American and Asian artifacts during the board’s Tuesday meeting. The items were given to the district by a 95-year-old Southend man.

Spears, musical instruments and other weapons lined the Intermediate School Community Room.”

Clinton traffic changes begin

“Highway 525 in Clinton is now officially a single-lane road heading toward the ferry, with the old outside lane converted to a ‘shoulder’ to be used only to wait in the ferry line. State Department of Transportation workers erected a scattering of new signs and finished painting diagonal lines every 100 feet on the new shoulder last week, and despite some residual confusion among motorists the job is considered finished.”
