“A 37-year-old Freeland resident who police say threw a woman so hard that she broke her collarbone will be spending some time behind bars, but not for the alleged assault.Andrew Hobbs pleaded guilty to bail jumping in Island County Superior Court Aug. 18. As part of the plea bargain, the prosecutor dropped the second-degree assault charge.Judge Alan Hancock sentenced him to 45 days in jail, with 30 of those days converted to 240 hours of community service. In addition, Hancock ordered Hobbs not to have any contact with the assault victim for five years.According to the victim’s statement, Hobbs got mad at her after a party last fall because of what she said to a friend’s wife. After the friends left, the woman said Hobbs threw her around the house and broke her clavicle.She begged him, but Hobbs refused to take the woman to the hospital until the next day. She said he forced her to make up a story about getting injured by tripping over her cats.Hobbs was charged with second-degree assault, which carries a standard sentence of three to six months in jail, on May 24.Hancock put out a $5,000 bench warrant on him after he failed to appear at a July 21 readiness hearing. “
