A community thank-you and send-off concert celebration for South Whidbey’s Bill and Donna Humphreys is this weekend in Freeland.

The Humphreys’ Hurrah begins at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 18341 Highway 525.

The couple are moving to Santa Fe, N.M., to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Bill Humphreys spent 35 years as the music director of Langley United Methodist Church, and Donna is a longtime choir member. Bill Humphreys brought the church into the community with on-stage performances from the high school to Whidbey Island Center for the Arts. He also directed community groups.

In addition to inviting a diverse group of individuals to join in their music, Bill Humphreys has consistently incorporated broader social issues into the church’s musical performance selections. Donna Humphreys also emphasized this during her time as the Chair of Christian Education, bringing international events to the church with lessons in cultural and social consciousness with performances such as “Cool in the Furnace.”
