The expansion project at the South Whidbey Harbor in Langley is entering a new stage after work on the breakwater and onshore wrap up.

Workers completed cutting the breakwater into two pieces Oct. 17 and spent the following day making sure everything worked correctly with the tides and weather conditions. The pieces were rotated and repositioned around the harbor.

During the next few weeks, construction workers from Mike Carlson Enterprises will work on utilities and electrical on the breakwater.

“They’re entering a phase that’s a little less intensive,” said Port of South Whidbey Operations Manager Ed Field.

Crews will work more on the small details of the actual operation of the ramp, he said.

The $1.7 million project is scheduled to be completed between the end of this year and early 2014.

Boaters should be aware the new docks are in place but not open, Field said. With onshore utility work wrapped up, Field said there will be a little less mayhem around the harbor.
