A driver hit a power pole on Maxwelton Road just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, but was not seriously injured in the crash.

The accident happened just south of the primary school. Emergency crews said the woman was driving a Chevy Cavalier south toward Highway 525 when she left the roadway and hit a pole on the right side of Maxwelton Road.

The car spun nearly completely around after the crash, and the front of the Chevy was damaged extensively. A deployed air bag was visible through the passenger’s window.

Two patrol cars from the Island County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, as well as a unit from Langley.

The driver was being evaluated at the scene by medics and not transported to Whidbey General Hospital. Traffic was slowed to one lane as Fire District 3 personnel and Langley Police Chief Bob Herzberg provided traffic control.
