A perpendicular car vs. car crash Saturday sent three people to Whidbey General Hospital.

Mike Cotton, deputy chief of South Whidbey Fire/EMS, was the duty officer on scene and said the three peoples’ injuries were minor. The crash occurred about 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Woodard Avenue and Highway 525 in Freeland. A car traveling south on the highway was struck by a car crossing on Woodard Avenue damaging its front passenger side panel. Cotton described it as a “glancing blow” that was minimal enough to not warrant one of the car’s air bags to deploy.

“It looked worse than it really was,” Cotton said.

The highway remained open to all lanes of traffic as first responders tended to the victims. Woodard Avenue was briefly blocked by the crash.
