The National Weather Service office in Seattle has issued a “high wind warning” for the Admiralty Inlet area from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

The warning also covers all of Whidbey and Camano islands.

Forecasters said the “high wind watch” is no longer in effect.

Winds from the south are expected to hit 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph this morning. Winds are expected to shift to the northwest this afternoon and rise to 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph.

According to the National Weather service, a high wind warning means that a hazardous wind event is imminent or occurring. Forecasters warn that the high winds will have the potential to topple trees, cause property damage and knock out power.

A gale warning is also in effect for the waters around Whidbey Island.
