“A hybrid combination of wolf and dog that escaped from a Scatchet Head home last week has been found and is being held temporarily at the South Whidbey Animal Clinic.Island County Animal Control Officer Carol Barnes said the hybrid escaped from a pen at a home on Kingston Court. Its legal owner is Melanie A. Giraldo. The animal was reported missing Saturday, July 28 and was found the following Tuesday without incident.Barnes said the hybrid, named Daisy, was reported to be approximately 90 percent wolf. She described it as a small female. It is not illegal to own a hybrid wolf in Island County, but an ordinance does require that such animals be kept in a safe, secure pen with a roof, which can be an expensive project. Daisy escaped when someone opened the gate to her kennel to take her for a walk.Barnes said the animal was well cared for but the owner was cited for a civil infraction that could cost $250 per day for the three days it was free. The owner was unaware of the hybrid housing regulations, she said.Barnes said the owner was hoping to relocate the hybrid to a safe home, but if that is not possible it may have to be euthanized. “
