Oak Harbor child molester sentenced to prison

Brian K. Reed pleaded guilty in Island County Superior Court June 9 to child molestation.

An Oak Harbor man who molested an 11-year-old girl last year was recently sentenced to prison, according to court documents.

Brian K. Reed, 36, pleaded guilty in Island County Superior Court June 9 to child molestation in the first degree. He was originally charged with the rape of a child but pleaded guilty to child molestation as part of a plea bargain.

On July 27, judge agreed with the sentence recommendation from the prosecution and defense. She sentenced Reed to five years and eight months in prison. Reed was also ordered to obtain a psycho/sexual evaluation and comply with any recommended treatment.

The young victim reported that Reed, who lived with the family, gave her alcohol while they were watching a movie. Her mother had COVID at the time and was confined to a bedroom.

Reed molested and raped her, according to the police report. He told her “no more groundings” while he raped her, the report states.

The girl immediately ran to her mother and told her what happened. Her mother took her to the hospital for treatment and a sexual assault exam.

In an interview with police, Reed denied raping the girl but admitted he was drinking heavily and didn’t remember what happened. He refused to give police a DNA sample for comparison to the rape kit, but the police obtained one through a search warrant.
