Oak Harbor man injured in motorcycle crash

The driver and passenger were injured in a single motorcycle crash in Snohomish County on Sunday.

An Oak Harbor man and his passenger were injured in a single motorcycle crash in Snohomish County on Sunday, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Ernie Merritt, 39, was driving west on State Route 530 near Darrington around 4:25 p.m. when his Harley-Davidson motorcycle left the roadway to the right, the state patrol reported.

Ernie Merritt and his passenger, 47-year-old Carolyn Merritt of Fallon, Nevada, were ejected from the motorcycle. The motorcycle came to a rest in a ditch on the right side of the road, according to the state patrol’s report.

Ernie Merritt and Carolyn Merritt were both injured and transported to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett. The motorcycle was totaled.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. The state patrol reported that drugs or alcohol were likely factors in the cause of the crash.
