Oak Harbor mayor is a no-show

Despite saying he would call for the resignations or replacements of Island Transit board members, Oak Harbor Mayor Scott Dudley was a no-show at Langley City Council meeting Monday.

Councilwoman Rene Neff issued a statement of support during the public comment portion of the meeting.

“I personally am very supportive of Jim staying on the Island Transit board,” she said, drawing applause from a handful of people in the council chambers. “I’m proud that you are representing the City of Langley.”

Dudley’s reported tour of Island County municipalities with representatives on the transit board was prompted after Island Transit was found to have major funding deficiencies, leading to layoffs and route cuts. Oversight by the board has been questioned by Dudley and others, leading the Oak Harbor mayor and recent transit board appointee to call for his peers’ resignations.
