Plant that pumpkin now: Seeds available free

Plans are under way for the fifth annual Whidbey Island Giant Pumpkin Contest to be held Oct. 14 in conjunction with Coupeville's Harvest Fest.

“Plans are under way for the fifth annual Whidbey Island Giant Pumpkin Contest to be held Oct. 14 in conjunction with Coupeville’s Harvest Fest. There will be awards for the biggest giant pumpkin, the biggest pumpkin raised by a junior contestant, the ugliest giant pumpkin and the prettiest giant pumpkin.Winners in past years have included pumpkins of over 225 pounds from growers up and down the island. The contest is not only a fun way to introduce children to the joys of gardening, but it is also a challenge for adults.Springtime is here and interested pumpkin growers will need to plant their seeds soon.
