Whidbey Island Association of Realtors presented a $10,000 check to Good Cheer Food Bank on Feb. 3 for the South Whidbey nonprofit organization’s new Community Connections Center currently under construction.

The 107 members and 17 affiliated businesses set a new fundraising record of the association.

“We wanted to thank Good Cheer for all it does for our community,” WIAR President Leanne Erickson said. “The new Community Connections Center will offer confidential one-on-one assistance for people needing access to food, unemployment assistance, housing and more. It couldn’t be a better time to expand the much-needed services they offer, which in turn, will help our community retain and obtain housing.”

The food bank near Bayview Corner is currently open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. In addition, the group runs thrift stores in Langley and Ken’s Corner.

“Thanks to WIAR, Good Cheer is one step closer to opening the doors of a new Community Connection Center,” said Lissa Firor, a member of Good Cheer’s leadership team. “We are so excited to have a space where our shoppers can connect to the other amazing resources this community offers.”
