Wildfire dry.After a wildfire burned three acres of wetland Wednesday, the Island County Sheriff’s Office dropped a burn ban on county residents that prohibits almost all types of outdoor burning until Aug. 20.Only recreational or cooking fires in established fire pits are allowed until the ban is lifted. Persons with approved county burning permits are also prohibited from burning. However, Department of Natural Resources permitted fires are still legal during the ban.Fire District 3 Fire Chief Don Smith said the fire risk on South Whidbey is high after two weeks of unbroken sunshine. No rain has fallen locally since July 1.The ban can be rescinded if sufficient rain falls to lower the fire risk. The ban is scheduled to end at noon on Aug. 20.”
