A 31-year-old man trained in jiu-jitsu and clad in yellow Spandex with red boots was arrested for allegedly assaulting his brother and trying to huck him in a dumpster Halloween night, according to court records.

Dillon S. Bradley, a 31-year-old Oak Harbor resident, appeared in Island County Superior Court Nov. 1. The judge found probable cause existed to believe he committed the crime of assault in the second degree or, as an alternative, assault in the fourth degree.

Later in the week, Island County Chief Criminal Prosecutor Eric Ohme said the case was sent to district court, where Bradley will only face the gross misdemeanor charge; there is nobody who will testify that the victim’s airway or blood flow was blocked, a necessary component of the felony assault charge.

Also, Ohme noted that Bradley has no criminal history and the alleged assault appears to be an isolated incident fueled by alcohol.

A witness reported to police that she saw Bradley, clad in yellow, punch his brother, slam him to the ground and then lift him off the ground with his arm wrapped around his neck, the report states. Bradley unsuccessfully tried to throw his brother into a dumpster, the witness said.

The police report states that the alleged victim appeared to be very intoxicated and said he didn’t want to get his brother in trouble. The report indicates that the man had multiple marks, bruises and abrasions on one side of his face and redness on his neck.

An officer knocked on Bradley’s door and he answered, still dressed in Spandex with blood on his knees. He said the fight was more of a “brother hug” and that he had been trying to prevent his drunk sibling from driving.

The report states that the entire family is trained in jiu-jitsu, a Brazilian martial art.
