A travel trailer was destroyed last week in a fire near Outlying Field Coupeville.

Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 1:25 p.m. May 9. When they arrived, the approximately 20-foot trailer was fully engulfed, Chief Jerry Helm said in an interview.

Nobody was inside the trailer at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries reported among civilians or firefighters. The trailer was a total loss, Helm said, but the fire did not spread to surrounding vegetation or shrubbery, or to a nearby structure.

Firefighters have not yet determined what caused the fire, but Helm said they believe it was accidental.

Helm said it was also unclear whether anyone was living in the trailer. It had a porch attached to it and was hooked up to electricity.

Four Central Whidbey units responded to the incident. Helm said the blaze was extinguished quickly.
