A 2009 graduate of Bayview School was killed Sunday night while stopped at a red light on a Tacoma street.

Camille Love, 20, had stopped her red car at the intersection of East 56th Street and East Portland Avenue at roughly 10 p.m. last night, according to news reports, and someone in an adjacent white minivan shot into her car.

Her brother, Josh Love, 20, a passenger in the car, was shot in the arm; he was taken to Tacoma General Hospital. Camille Love died at the scene, officials said.

Reports said the two had just left a family gathering, and were heading to a friend’s house.

There was no apparent motive for the shooting, Tacoma police said. The van, which had been reported stolen from the Auburn area, was found abandoned with the engine running about a mile from the shooting.

At Bayview School on Monday, teachers and students posted heartfelt messages on the school bulletin board. Counselors were available to meet with students.

Love was one of 10 graduates to receive high school diplomas last year, and was to apply to college Monday, said Bayview math teacher Louise Fiori.

“She always made good life choices,” Fiori said. “She was just radiant and wonderul.”

Added former Bayview student Mark Moeller, who graduated with Love last year: “She was always happy – she never said anything wrong.”

Said a note pasted on the school bulletin board: “Her last name says it all – LOVE.”
