“How many people does it take to do a triathlon?Three hundred to do the swimming, biking and running, and another 50 to make sure they stay on course and drink enough water. The South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District is looking for volunteers interested in helping run the fifth annual Tri-the-Rock Whidbey Island Triathlon on Aug. 4. Volunteers are needed to help with race communications, parking, timing, water stops, and the coveted body-marking positions. In return for the help, each Tri-the-Rock volunteer receives a t-shirt commemorating the event. The even starts at Lone Lake for with an 800-yard swim, then sends athletes off on their bikes for a 19.5 mile ride through Langley to South Whidbey Community Park, where they will drop off their bikes to start a 3.8 mile run through the woods. Those interested in volunteering should contact Jerry at South Whidbey Parks and Recreation at 221-5484, or reply to South Whidbey Parks and Rec. “
