Elizabeth Noyer

Elizabeth Marsh Rowe Noyer died peacefully at home on Oct. 11, 2005.

Betty was born June 10, 1923 in Rochester, N.Y. She attended the University of Rochester and then served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves.

She married Clarence Carl Noyer on July 22, 1950. She had six children; Vicky, Pamela, Lise, Amy, Chris and Bruce, and 11 grandchildren.

Betty and Clarence lived in the San Francisco, Calif. bay area for 30 years. There, Betty received her master’s in library sciences from San Jose State University and was a librarian for San Mateo County for 17 years. During her career she worked as a children’s, reference and bookmobile librarian. She retired as head of the Atherton Library in 1987.

In 1988, Betty and Clarence moved to Whidbey Island to build their retirement home. They joined St. Augustine’s-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church where Betty was member of the Episcopal Church Women. She was an active member of the Friends of Freeland Library, serving as membership chair for many years.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 23 at St. Augustine’s.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Friends of the Freeland Library.
