Gerald (Jerry) Ray Bennett: January 12, 1935 – May 9, 2025

Gerald (Jerry) Ray Bennett passed away peacefully on May 9th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born in Portland, Oregon to Ray and Lillian Bennett on January 12, 1935, and spent his childhood in Portland attending Jefferson HS and graduated 1952. Like his father and brother before him, he attended Oregon State University.

After college, Jerry volunteered for the US Navy proudly serving four years aboard the USS Rowan.

After the Navy he met and fell in love with Marcia McLellan getting married April 18, 1959. In November of 1962 they welcomed their first child, Bradley followed three years later with identical twins, Gregory and Jeffrey.

Jerry had a long and successful career in the glass manufacturing industry serving a loyal customer base throughout the Pacific Northwest for nearly 40 years. In 1978, following a building boom in Seattle, the family moved to Bellevue, Washington.

Jerry played an active role in his sons athletic programs from coaching Little League baseball to Booster Club President at Newport High School and the University of Puget Sound football program.

Once the three boys graduated from college and Jerry and Marcia set their sights on retirement, the time was right to build their new home on Whidbey Island.

Jerry & Marcia are members of Useless Bay Golf & Country Club, enjoying golf, bridge games, and many friends. He and Marcia also traveled extensively during retirement having visited 6 of our 7 continents. A highlight of his travels was playing the game he loved on the Old and New Courses at St Andrews, Scotland.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia, sons Brad (Sheri), Greg (Rachelle), and Jeff (Tracey) along with 8 grandchildren and twin great granddaughters.

A memorial has been scheduled at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland, WA at 1pm, Saturday, June 7th.
