Iola Synder

Iola A. Synder, 89, passed away on Dec. 22, 2007.

She was born in Anacortes, a daughter of Maria and Charles Premo, one of four children. She spent all her school years and graduated in Anacortes.

A longtime resident of Freeland moving here from Seattle, Iola and her husband John started Freeland Electric in the early 1970s.

Many may remember her smiling face at the old PayLess Foods in Freeland, where she worked for many years in the 1970s and ’80s, and then retired.

Iola and her husband built their dream home on the beach at Mutiny Bay, where they lived for 35 years.

She is survived by one sister, Delores Norman of LaConner; one daughter, Deanna Wicks of Yakima; one son, Anthony Suryan of Napa, Calif.; one granddaughter, Denise Syverson of Yakima; and one grandson, David Wicks of Freeland.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at Visser Funeral Home in Langley.
