Joanne Carol Van Patten: Nov. 1, 1936 – Sept. 29, 2019

Joanne Van Patten passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 29, 2019, in Dallas, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edward Van Patten.

Both Joanne and Edward were active members of the Greenbank/South Whidbey community from the day they decided to make it their retirement home in 1991 through Edward’s passing in 2011.

Joanne then moved to Dallas to be closer to her son and grandchildren.

Joanne was known throughout South Whidbey for her passion and involvement in quilting, fabric arts, beach-watchers, and master gardening.

Her quilts and fabric arts were displayed throughout the island including many juried statewide competitions. Joanne’s fondest memory with her beach-watchers’ friends was helping with creating the permanent home for Rosie, the gray whale exhibit at the Coupeville Wharf.

Joanne will be remembered for her strong commitment to her family and community.

She is survived by her children: Skip, Debbie, Matthew and Patti Van Patten and nine grandchildren.

Friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences with the family through Matthew Van Patten at mattvp@verizon.net. A memorial gathering is being planned.
