John Westerlund

“Long John” Clarence Westerlund was born on May 28, 1944, in Bellingham to Clarence “Slim” and Grace Westerlund. He died peacefully at his home in Greenbank on Nov. 13, 2010.

John was raised in Lynnwood, where he was very active in scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Edmonds High School in 1962.

While attending Everett Junior College, John furthered his interest in learning mechanic skills. He worked for Boeing for 17 years.

He moved to Whidbey Island in 1968, where he later pursued a career using his mechanical skills. John was known throughout the island for his ability to fix most anything.

John enjoyed socializing with his family and friends, working on his many projects, fishing, gardening and being entertained by the birds and squirrels on his deck.

John leaves behind his wife Linda. He is also survived by his children and step-children: Tresia (Paul) Rutter of Mount Vernon, Bill Westerlund of Olympia, Jack Westerlund of Lynnwood, Kathy (Larry) Schofield of Fairbanks, Alaska, Craig Masters of Alabama and Charissa Love of Freeland. The joys of his life were his grandchildren: Josh, Harley, Krystian, James, Kaylea, Jazmine, Jubilee, India and Julia. He is also survived by his loving sister Janet Westerlund of Bothell.

At his request no formal service is planned, but a celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.
