June L. Chandler

June L. Chandler, 87, died peacefully at her home in Langley on June 17 with her daughter Kaycee at her side.

She was born July 3, 1918 in Burlington to James Elijah and Austa Opal Kerlee. June was raised on a farm with her sister Dorothy and her brothers Jack and Larkin. After graduating from beauty college she opened and ran a successful beauty shop in Burlington where she had a great following of customers.

She met and married Alvord L. Chandler in 1943 and moved to Forks on the Olympic Peninsula where they lived for four years before returning to the Seattle area. They later adopted two children and lived in the Carkeek Park neighborhood till they moved to Langley in 1977.

June was actively involved with fundraising for Children’s Orthopedic Hospital for years, and had many wonderful friends in Seattle and on South Whidbey. She and her husband were active members of the Rainier Golf and Country Club in Seattle and the Useless Bay and Holmes Harbor golf clubs on Whidbey Island.

June loved to work in her garden; planting flowers, nurturing them and watching them grow gave her much pleasure. She had three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Kaycee of Freeland; her brother Jack Kerlee of Coupeville; two grandsons Noel and Ryan Farmer of Sacramento, Calif.; and a niece Jackie Wood of Coupeville.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, June’s favorite charity.
