Larry JohnsonDecember 3, 1949 – October 3, 2024

Larry was born George Lawrence Johnson in Baltimore, Maryland on December 3, 1949 to parents Vernon and Clarine Johnson. He was well known in our South Whidbey community. Larry was an auto mechanic for almost thirty years at the Good Year Whidbey Tire and Auto Center in Bayview.

Larry enjoyed crabbing at the Clinton dock, going to the casino, working on Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles, watching Gunsmoke on TV and spending time with family. He was a good cook and quite the storyteller. In 2020, we moved from the farm to a much smaller property. He enjoyed “puttering” in his huge three vehicle garage with a shop and a loft. He LOVED eating fresh peaches off “his” peach tree!

In 2022, he had lung surgery after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He had a lot of complications during and after the surgery. He was in a hospital for five weeks and then in a Rehab Center for two months. He never gained much of his strength back. During all the challenges after he came home, he figured out how he could still cut and split firewood, and much more.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna, a son, a daughter in law, and two grandsons. He is survived by his siblings, children, grandchildren great grandchildren and “his” Jennie. He was on Whidbey Health Hospice for almost a month. He passed at home from respiratory failure on October, 3 2024. Larry and family truly appreciated what our Hospice Team did for us. We want to thank them all for their help.
