Richard Louis Halvorsen

Richard L. “Dick” Halvorsen was born to Joseph and Isabell (Charlson) Halvorsen on March 7, 1928, and he entered into rest with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Nov. 14, 2008 with his family and friends at his side, at the age of 80 years.

Dick was a 1947 graduate of Everett High School and attended college courses at Everett Community College.

Dick met Donna Chambers in 1947, and they entered into marriage on June 30, 1951 in Seattle; living in Mountlake Terrace.

He worked primarily for the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department in the maintenance department for the municipal golf courses in the Seattle area.

Dick and Donna relocated to Whidbey Island in 1980 to enjoy their retirement, enjoying traveling and Dick’s great love for the great outdoors.

Dick was active in the Sea Scouts and also in the Boy Scouts of America, along with participation in Snohomish County Search and Rescue. Dick enjoyed camping, hiking and anything to do with the nature.

Dick is survived by his loving wife and partner of 57 years, Donna, at the family home; children, Michael Halvorsen, and his wife Gayla of Freeland, Cheryl Boddie of Oak Harbor, Jon Halvorsen and his wife Kathy of Yellow Tail Dam, Mont.; grandchildren Jennifer, Renee, Jason, Kelly, Timothy, Samuel, Amy; a great-grandchild Leilani; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Jack and Lucille Smith, and his friends that will all miss him dearly.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church located on Cascade Avenue in Langley. Pastor Robert Welch will be officiating.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Affordable Burial & Cremation Services of Mount Vernon.
