The Whidbey Crabs went undefeated in four games May 26-27 before taking it on the chin from the Maltby Battlecats, losing 10-3 in the semifinal game Monday at the Memorial Tournament in Mountlake Terrace.

On Saturday, the Crabs shut out the Mountain Valley Redhawks from Duvall, 10-0 and a different Maltby squad 8-0. They were lead by pitching from Ricky Muzzy, Charlie Patterson and one inning by Houston Schmutz.

On Sunday, the locals cruised 10-2 over North Seattle. The victory came with a loss, however, as one of Whidbey’s leading hitters, Connor Antich, sustained a broken wrist after a collision at first base. Whidbey persevered the final contest against the Kirkland Art Glass to take a 5-4 victory advancing to Monday’s semifinals.

Trying to patch their lineup with the Antich loss and limited personnel from other season injuries, the Crabs could not hold back the powerful Battlecats.

The Crabs will wind down their regular Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletic Association Pony League season in the next two weeks before starting a limited summer schedule, with other games to be announced.

Their season record stands at 22-3. The final MTYAA contests will be a four-team mini-tournament at 11:30 a.m. June 10 at the South Whidbey Parks and Recreation field beginning.
