Retired Good Cheer chief deserves South Whidbey’s gratitude

Editor,

I attended Kathy McCabe’s retirement party from Good Cheer this week. As I sat and listened to the folks give testimony to how she has served the community through her work at Good Cheer, to her awesomeness, it occurred to me that many folks probably do not know of her work with the Whidbey Homeless Coalition. Kathy has not only ‘Fed the Hungry,’ she has also helped house the homeless. It was in her office at Good Cheer, in 2014, that the South Whidbey Homeless Coalition was born. Kathy then came on and served on our first board and brought the gift of her compassion and spotless reputation in the community into her work with us.

Our year-round, overnight shelter in Oak Harbor, the Haven, and the House of Hope in Langley have come about because of Kathy McCabe and folks like her who suited up, showed up, and stuck their dang necks out to make this community a place where humane values reign.

We love you, and we thank you Kathy!
