The Record needs to improve its coverage of the arts

Editor,

Last weekend the Saratoga Orchestra finished a fabulous concert of exciting music, including an amazing tuba soloist and Heide Piper, a terrific woman astronaut from Oak Harbor. Many children were there to be inspired by the music as well as a “real” space walker. The music was cleverly tied in as clips from the spacewalk were enhanced by the Blue Danube Waltzes. The concert finished with Star Wars – all “out of this world.”

I was impressed by the enthusiastic audience. I am wondering how they find out about our concerts as The Record seldom has any information about this amazing group. I keep looking every week for cultural events in our community and feel The Record is letting us down. We at least have other online avenues that are willing to keep the community informed of upcoming arts events. I guess it is very important to let us know about the political meetings on the island and the athletic events at the high school, but I personally would appreciate knowing more about concerts and gallery openings.

Whidbey is fortunate to have an amazing creative community. It is sad when we don’t know what is happening. Please consider including these in our paper.
