Editor,
Your recent article about Burley and Visser Funeral Homes closing prompts me to write about my personal experience with Wallin Funeral Home and Cremation in Oak Harbor.
The need for a funeral home comes to all, sooner or later. I faced it before I was prepared. My choice of Wallin was based on a recommendation by my friend who is a parishioner at St. Hubert. She heard Father Rick comment that Wallin was good. So when the hospice nurse asked me to choose, I chose Wallin.
That proved to be an excellent decision. From the first contact, I was impressed by Wallin’s caring, accommodating manner. They were careful, thoughtful and gentle handling my husband’s body. They spoke gently and compassionately with me, leaving unnecessary questions for later when I would be better prepared.
I specifically thank Funeral Director Jerome Barber, Intern Madeline, and Martha Wallin, the three people we have personally interacted with. Their assistance continues. Mr. Barber is now helping us select a memorial grave marker.
For those who face this sad choice in the future, I highly recommend Wallin Funeral Home in Oak Harbor, a Whidbey Island family-owned company.
Sincerely,
NORMA HANSSON
