Island parties blast redistricting plan

“South Whidbey political activists are fighting a proposal that would divide Island County into parts of two Congressional districts.

Dorothy Cleveland, a Langley resident deeply involved in Republican politics for many years, said she is “horrified” by the proposal, which she described as “very disruptive.”

On the Democratic side, Langleyite Paul Fournier agrees with Cleveland.

‘We feel it’s really going to be detrimental to Island County,’ he said. ‘We’d just be the tail of the dog up here.’”

Mutiny Bay Resort will become condos

“Mutiny Bay Resort, the last of South Whidbey’s old-time fishing resorts, will ask its last vacationers to check out when it closes in May.

Next summer, the resort’s owner will demolish or remove the fishing cabins, chalets, mobile homes and other structures at the 64-year-old resort. The clearout will make room for a planned development of the 3.26-acre, waterside site into a condominium complex.

Though the development… will bring some new housing to the corner of Mutiny Bay and Fish Road, it will also displace a number of people who are already living there.”
