James Strueber died Thursday, Jan. 21, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham, the Washington State Patrol reported in a press release this week. He was 72.

Strueber was eastbound on Shoreview Drive in Freeland in the early afternoon when his Ford F-250 crossed the center line and struck a madrona tree. State police say he suffered a “medical episode.”
