Sanctuary city decision draws closer with upcoming Langley City Council meeting

Langley residents will soon know what the Langley Ethics Committee has to say about becoming a sanctuary city.

The committee is currently working on a position and will present its determination to the Langley City Council at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at City Hall. The city council may also weigh in on the sanctuary city discussion at the meeting, but topics such as the potential installation of light-emitting-diode (LED) lights and illicit activity occurring at Seawall Park will take precedence.

“We have some other things that are cued up and in process,” Mayor Tim Callison said.

Though the city council typically meets Mondays, Martin Luther King Jr. Day led to the Jan. 16 meeting being moved to Tuesday.

“It’s an important issue to us and we’re considering it seriously and moving forward deliberately,” Callison said.
