An engine fire destroyed a small Ford truck Friday afternoon at Ken’s Korner, near the Kiwanis fireworks stand.

The call came in shortly after 3:30 p.m. and South Whidbey Fire/EMS were on site nine minutes later, said Deputy Chief Jon Beck. Crews were able to put out the fire within five minutes of arriving on scene, he said.

The owner had just had the vehicle serviced before the engine ignited, he said. No injuries were reported at the scene.

Beck cautioned the weather is getting drier and drier as we get further into the summer. No fireworks related fires of injuries were called in to South Whidbey Fire/EMS over the holiday as of July 5. Crews did respond to unattended fires throughout the night. A countywide burn ban began today, Wednesday, July 10.
