]South Whidbey boys soccer defeated Lynden Christian 1-0 in overtime in the opening match of the 1A District 1 tournament at Whatcom Community College’s Orca Field Monday afternoon. The winning goal came with about two minutes left in the second of two five-minute golden goal overtime periods. Falcon freshman striker Graham Colar scored the goal after a cross from Falcon junior midfielder Max Cassee’.

“An exciting end to a hard fought game,” said Falcon head coach Emerson Robbins in an email. “We pretty much controlled, maybe even dominated play and although I didn’t keep a shot chart, we no doubt dominated shots as well, just as we have in many of our games. This one, however, finally had a good ending.”

The Falcons play King’s in the semifinals of the tournament tonight at 6 p.m. away. The winner moves to the championship match, while the loser will play in a loser-out match.
