“Intermediate school teacher Pam Muncey has her drive stalled when she runs into a fifth grade defender. At right teacher Renee Neff moves in to join the action.Jim Larsen / staff photosSouth Whidbey’s energetic fifth graders humbled their teachers on the soccer field last Friday in the third annual game pitting the two sides against each other. The teachers showed plenty of enthusiasm but zero offensive punch in three straight contests against groups of fifth graders. The first two games ended in scoreless ties with teachers going head-to-head against an all-girls team followed by a mixed team of girls and boys. But the all-boys team proved too much for the teachers to handle. Goalkeeper Doug Hale is the school principal and at 6-6 towered over his pesky rivals, but his size didn’t deter the boys from scoring. Michael Sousa and Jensen Connor both booted goals past their principal and hundreds of their school classmates cheered from the sidelines. For the teachers, as always, there’s always next year. “
