Car rolled as man flees police

“A Clinton man apparently trying to elude a deputy rolled his pickup truck on Campbell Road late Saturday night.According to the Island County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Rick Norrie attempted to stop the pickup at 11:30 p.m. due to faulty equipment and erratic driving. The driver turned south off Highway 525 onto Campbell Road and accelerated rapidly.Sgt. Norrie switched on his emergency lights but backed off on his accelerator in order to avoid a high speed chase, according to Detective Sgt. Russ Lindner, who described the incident. Norrie tired to keep the pickup in sight and was close behind when it rolled over on a sharp curve above Cultus Bay Road.The driver of the vehicle, Jason Gildersleeve, 25, of Clinton, was helped by Fire District 3 personnel and later treated and released from Whidbey General Hospital before being booked into Island County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and reckless driving. On Monday, he was in the process of being transferred to Seattle where he is wanted on an outstanding $10,000 warrant for failure to appear in court on a DUI charge. “
