Search starts for EDC director

“The search is officially on for a new executive director of the Island District Economic Development Council.The EDC lost its director when Tom Shaughnessy was named interim director of the Island County Communications Center in April.The EDC board drew up a new job description and advertisements have been placed in various publications.It’s a local and national search, said Sharleen Eller, assistant director, last week.The job description does not say what the position will pay. Shaughnessy was earning about $52,000 annually. The EDC is partially funded by state and county government.Eller said there appears to be considerable local interest in the job. I’ve given out a number of applications already, she said. Ads have been placed in regional and national business publications.The job description lists several functions of the EDC executive director, including: Business assistance and retention; government coordination; community outreach; membership enhancement; administrative duties; and attending meetings and seminars.What kind of person is the EDC board seeking? According to the job descriptions, someone who is: an imaginative, enthusiastic, innovative, pro-active, out-of-the-box thinker; a good communicator and good salesman; a good coalition builder; and someone with a successful background in business or management.The deadline to apply is July 15.
