South Whidbey parks commissioners vote to buy playground

The South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District commissioners voted unanimously to purchase a new playground from ArchiteCreation on Wednesday.
The playground will be erected near the new pavilion to be built at the soccer sports complex on Langley Road.
Budgeted at $100,000, the project will cost $95,048. The price includes tax, freight and installation.
The structure will be made of recycled plastic and metal with plastic-coated perforated steel decks, and Northwest-sourced molded medium-density polyethylene and stainless steel slide chutes.
“This is extreme-duty municipal service grade playground equipment with an extended-duty service lifetime and locally available replacement parts,” said company spokesman Geoff Robinson.
All the equipment and site furnishings are manufactured in Portland, Ore.
The purchase is part of a larger effort by the parks district to upgrade facilities. Work is currently underway on soccer and baseball field drainage and improvements to Trustland Trails.
