LANGLEY – Archbishop Murphy capitalized on a slow start by South Whidbey to win 3-1.

The Falcons were lethargic in the first set as the Wildcats came out firing like the second place team in the Cascade Conference. There were only three kills for the Falcons in that set, all by senior hitter Linden Firethorne, who finished with 17 in the match. Archbishop Murphy won 25-6, which was South Whidbey’s worst set of the season.

The Wildcats won the second set 25-18, and looked ready to sweep South Whidbey in straight sets.

In the third set, South Whidbey won the first point on a kill by senior setter Emily Houck and kept the lead to win 25-16.

The Wildcats stopped the Falcons’ rally after tying the lead four times early in the fourth set to win 25-18.

Archbishop Murphy was led by junior hitter Beth Carlson with six kills, five blocks and three aces and all-conference libero Hannah Linsenmayer’s 37 digs, eight kills and five aces. The Wildcats finished the regular season as the second place team with 12 wins and two losses.
