The Robinson family beach donation deal is sealed.
Earlier this month, the Island County commissioners unanimously agreed to accept the property, which includes about 300 feet of waterfront adjacent to the public boat launch in Mutiny Bay.
The decision was made following the recommendation of Bill Oakes, director of Island County Public Works.
Aside from it being waterfront land, its proximity to a boat launch and a public parking area make it ideal for public ownership, Oakes said.
Previously discussed partnerships with the Port of South Whidbey and the South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District to manage the property have not moved forward. But two community groups are interested in keeping the park clean and maintained.
The property was donated by Frank Robinson, founder of Robinson Helicopter Company.
