South Whidbey High School’s Class of 2018 are now officially alumni of Langley’s schools.

Saturday, 89 seniors walked across the stage and received diplomas from Superintendent Jo Moccia, Principal John Patton and South Whidbey School District board members.

Several students spoke, including Valedictorian Grace Callahan. “Choice Speakers” were Aengus Dobendorf, nominated by his class, and Matt Johnson, chosen by faculty, to address the graduates.

South Whidbey High School Jazz Ensemble performed the traditional processional, national anthem and “Michelangelo” by Argentine composer Astor Pizzolla.

Senior Caroline Burns sung “We’ll Meet Again” and Music in Motion played “This is Me.”

Scholarships to 40 students adding up to $172,545 were donated by 47 separate organizations, businesses, nonprofits, churches and individuals.

Friday, South Whidbey Academy graduated 24 students in a separate ceremony.

Students Lion DeShong and Kyle Starkweather spoke at the Academy commencement and staff spoke about each individual graduate.
