Progress of the new Bayview Fire Station is, “so far, so good,” according to district officials.
Concrete footings were recently poured at the new site, officials said in a press release. Cement trucks ran in an orderly procession as the weather cooperated beautifully. After years of anticipation, the complex project’s first month ran smoothly.
The building is now on the fast track, as completion of one step is immediately followed by another, according to officials.
“We couldn’t be happier with how things are unfolding,” Chief Rusty Palmer said in the release. Key principles of the team responsible for the project, including representatives from South Whidbey Fire/EMS, have started meeting at the site every other Monday to review progress with discussions that often include a series of acronyms like AR (Architectural Revision), RFI (Request for Information), and COP (Change Order Proposal).
The meetings include updates on any safety or scheduling concerns. The discussion was recently focused primarily on a special decontamination area for firefighters to be located within the new station.
