It’s showtime for Mr. South Whidbey

It’s showtime for six brave guys trying to raise big bucks via their charm, catwalk, talk, wit and talent.

Friends of Friends, a nonprofit that helps South Whidbey residents with medical bills, puts on its biggest fundraiser, the Mr. South Whidbey Pageant, Saturday, Oct. 6 at Freeland Hall. Admission is $30.

Ray Green, Keegan Harshman, Mike Johnson, Larry Johnson, Tim Leonard and Trace Prael will be competing for this year’s title and bragging rights. For the past month or so, they’ve already been soliciting votes and dollars toward the cause.

One vote is equal to $1. The contestant who raises the most money wins the coveted crown.

Audience participation is a big part of Saturday’s competition. People cheer on the contestants and cast their votes with bucks. There’s no telling what will be revealed during the show — in the way of hidden talent, that is. The fully-clothed showdown has also featured some interesting outfits in years past.

Sue Frause once again entertains as emcee.

Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund is a safety net fund that’s raised more than $1 million and helped more than 2,000 residents since it started in 1997.
