Letter: Choose Helen Price Johnson for 10th District state senator

Helen Price Johnson is our best choice for state Senator. We need her passion, natural skills, and experience for these challenging times.

Helen is a popular Island County commissioner because she listens to all her constituents and colleagues regardless of personal or political persuasions. She sincerely wants to learn what policies and priorities are most important. A decade of public service in a rural county has provided Helen with a detailed knowledge of the workings of our government and what can be accomplished.

A real measure of a leader is his or her ability to build consensus around workable solutions. Over the years, I observed Helen’s considerable skills of persuasion, negotiation, compromise, and when warranted, standing her ground.

Digging out of the economic collapse of 2008 was a huge challenge for Island County, and Helen was a major leader in getting us through that difficult time. Today’s pandemic is a much larger challenge. Helen has the skills and track record we need to help get us through the next years of this recovery.

Being a county commissioner has been a “dream job” for Helen and she has proven to be very good at serving our county. She will take the skills and abilities she learned as the county commissioner as our 10th Legislative District state Senator.

I enthusiastically support Helen’s candidacy for senator.
