Two South Whidbey residents were added to the Ryan’s House for Youth board of directors. Langley Police Chief Randy Heston and Langley Middle School special education teacher Gerry Barrat joined the homeless shelter’s board this month.
“We went after Randy because he has such a big heart for those kids,” said Ryan’s House executive director Lori Cavender. “You can see it every time he goes out to the park and talks to them and when he hangs out at the HUB.”
Barrat was selected for his “extensive background with youth,” Cavender said.
Ryan’s House now has 11 board members with one more position remaining. The board chairwoman is Marianne Busche.
Ryan’s House for Youth offers services and supplies for homeless and struggling youths on Whidbey Island. It is in the process of building a shelter in the Scatchet Head neighborhood of South Whidbey.
