Try a tantalizing Taste of Whidbey

FREELAND — Whidbey Island’s top chefs will be cooking up all kinds of delectable dishes at the third annual Taste of Whidbey, a fundraising event for Slow Food Whidbey Island, which will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 3 at Freeland Hall, 1515 Shoreview Dr., Freeland. Chefs will be using locally-sourced ingredients and local wines and beer to make their creations, and attendees have an opportunity to meet the producers as well as the preparers.

FREELAND — Whidbey Island’s top chefs will be cooking up all kinds of delectable dishes at the third annual Taste of Whidbey, a fundraising event for Slow Food Whidbey Island, which will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 3 at Freeland Hall, 1515 Shoreview Dr., Freeland.

Chefs will be using locally-sourced ingredients and local wines and beer to make their creations, and attendees have an opportunity to meet the producers as well as the preparers.

Proceeds support Slow Food Whidbey Island’s education efforts regarding the pleasures of food, with a commitment to community and the environment, as well as other local food organizations.

Participants this year include The Braeburn Restaurant, Christopher’s on Whidbey, Ciao!, Fraser’s Gourmet Hideaway, The Oystercatcher, Prima Bistro, Tree Top Baking, Useless Bay Café, Flyers Restaurant and Brewery, Holmes Harbor Winery, Ott & Murphy Wines, Useless Bay Wines and Whidbey Island Winery.

Farmers supplying local food to the chefs will likely include 3 Sisters, Greenbank Farm, Hunters Moon Blueberry Farm, The Little Brown Farm, Mile Post 19 Farm, Molly’s Island Garden, Penn Cove Shellfish, The Raven and the Spade, Rosehip Farm, Strawfield House and Farm and Willowood Farm.

Tickets are $25 and include admission and 10 tastes, good for either food or drink. Additional tastes are available for $2 each. There will also be a door prize drawing and music by John Knox.

Tickets are available at participating restaurants, brownpapertickets.com and the Bayview and Coupeville Farmers Markets (at the Willowood stand).
