Two strategy meetings in an effort to capture grant money online for local nonprofit organizations will be this month on the South End.
Thousands of dollars are available from PepsiCo each month through an Internet-driven competition among new ideas that promise to do good.
PepsiCo is giving away $20 million this year — $1.3 million per month — to the nonprofit projects getting the most votes in four categories.
Andy McRea of Clinton already has a project based on volunteerism in the contest, and he’s trying to line up other island nonprofits, public and private, to try to join in the competition.
The first information meeting for the Refresh Whidbey Grant Contest will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at the Freeland Library, 5495 Harbor Ave.
A second meeting will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 28 in the Bayview Cash Store lobby at Bayview Corner.
Contestants each month compete for grants of $5,000, $25,000, $50,000 or $250,000. You can vote every day for as many as 10 separate ideas.
McRea said winners of the first two months of the contests were getting about 2,500 votes per day.
